The Dallas Cowboys appear to be making moves as the NFL trade deadline looms. With the 4 p.m. ET deadline fast approaching, team owner Jerry Jones revealed Monday that the Cowboys have already completed at least one trade and could have more in the works.
Speaking during an appearance, Jones hinted that the team’s front office has been active as the clock ticks down on potential deals.
“A lot of action going on right now in terms of trading. We certainly have made a trade and we may make a couple more trades before that deadline,” Jones said. “We’ve made one. We possibly could make two more.”
While Jones stopped short of naming the player involved, he suggested that the incoming addition would make an immediate impact for Dallas.
“Immediately it will have them on the field and it will address some of the things that have been our shortcomings,” Jones added.
The Dallas Cowboys’ most pressing shortcomings have been on the defensive side of the ball. Entering their Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football, Dallas (3-4-1) ranks last in the NFC in both total defense and points allowed.
The team’s defensive struggles have fueled speculation that Jones and executive vice president Stephen Jones could be among the league’s most aggressive buyers at this year’s deadline. Multiple reports in recent weeks have linked Dallas to potential trades for defensive reinforcements, including help along the defensive line and secondary.
The Dallas Cowboys inability to contain opposing offenses has been a recurring theme this season, with opponents averaging over 380 yards per game. Despite strong individual performances from linebacker Micah Parsons and cornerback DaRon Bland, the defense has lacked consistency and depth.
Jones is no stranger to bold declarations or surprising twists. The longtime Cowboys owner has repeatedly expressed confidence in making moves to improve his roster, though not every deal has materialized as expected.
Earlier this season, Jones believed he was close to finalizing a long-term extension with Micah Parsons, only for negotiations to stall amid reported disagreements over structure and guarantees. That experience may explain why some around the league are waiting to see whether Jones’ latest claim of a completed trade comes to fruition.
Still, Jones’ comments carry weight, especially when made publicly. If the Cowboys have indeed executed a trade, it would mark their first significant in-season acquisition of 2025 and potentially a last-ditch effort to stabilize a season slipping below .500.
As of Monday afternoon, the team had not yet announced any official transactions, and details of the reported trade remain unknown. NFL teams have until 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 4, to finalize any deals.
Whether Jones’ promise of immediate help proves true will likely be revealed soon. For now, Dallas Cowboys fans can only wait and hope that the front office’s late flurry of activity can help turn the team’s season around.
