Demi Engemann’s journey on the Hulu reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has been filled with drama, controversy and personal challenges, raising questions about whether the upcoming fourth season could be her final appearance on the show.
The hit Hulu series debuted in September 2024 and quickly captured attention for its behind-the-scenes look at a group of Mormon mom influencers living in Utah. The first season introduced viewers to Demi Engemann, Jen Affleck, Whitney Leavitt, Mikayla Matthews, Mayci Neeley, Jessi Ngatikaura, Taylor Frankie Paul and Layla Taylor. Miranda Hope later joined the cast in season 2, expanding the group dynamic and adding new layers to the show’s storylines.
Over the course of the series, several relationship scandals have shaken the tight-knit group, with Marciano Brunette emerging as a central figure in the drama. Early on, Marciano claimed he had grown close to Demi, who is married to Bret Engemann, sparking speculation about the nature of their relationship. However, the situation escalated dramatically during the season 2 finale when Marciano appeared on the show and alleged that he had actually been involved in an affair with Jessi Ngatikaura, who is also married.
Jessi later confirmed that she had been involved with Marciano, but Demi firmly denied ever having a romantic relationship with him. The conflict intensified when Demi accused Marciano of sexual misconduct. In response, Marciano filed a defamation lawsuit against her, further fueling the already heated feud.
Although Jessi ended her relationship with Marciano, she ultimately sided with him in the ongoing dispute with Demi. The tension between the two women became even more public when Jessi shared personal details about Demi and Bret Engemann’s sex life — a revelation that fans later dubbed the “Fruity Pebbles” controversy — shortly before the show returned with its fourth season.
When the first promotional material for season 4 was released, fans quickly noticed something unusual: Demi appeared in certain scenes shown in early footage but was absent from the show’s official promotional poster. The omission sparked speculation about her role in the new season.
Adding to the confusion, season 4 marks a notable change behind the scenes. Several cast members — including Jen, Jessi, Taylor, Miranda, Whitney, Mikayla, Mayci and Layla — received executive producer credits for the new season. Demi, however, is listed only as a “friend” of the cast rather than a main star.
Demi has previously acknowledged that her future with the series is uncertain and described the decision about returning as a significant one. In an interview with People in December 2025, she explained that she had mixed feelings about her experience on the show.
“I have had wonderful experiences doing the show,” Demi said at the time. “I’ve had moments that I didn’t appreciate and where it felt like it maybe wasn’t a good fit for me, but it’s definitely something that I’m considering. I’m weighing out all the options and I probably just need to take a little bit more time to really think about what’s best for me moving forward.”
She also addressed rumors circulating online that she had not been invited back to the Hulu series, clarifying that the door remains open for her return.
“It’s been extended to me that the door is wide open and that I’m welcome back,” she said. “I’m just hoping that we can continue the momentum and find the things that feel like a good fit for us long-term and find our place in this crazy entertainment world.”
Demi also spoke positively about the opportunities that came from the show and the success of her fellow cast members.
“It’s a wild world to navigate, but it’s also so fun and so many fun opportunities that have come from it,” she said. “And I’ve watched my friends experience so many fun things and it’s fun to watch them be successful and do all the things that they’re doing. So yeah, we’ll see.”
Despite keeping the door open for a possible return, Demi suggested she may be considering a slower pace in the near future.
“I want to enter into a little bit more of a slower season of life,” she explained. “So that’s what we’re going to be deciding over the next little bit, in terms of if we want to move forward there.”
Reflecting on the period ahead, she added that the moment feels like a transition point in her life.
“It honestly kind of feels like a chapter’s closing and a new one’s opening, and I’m excited to see what comes of it. It’s a good way to close out the year and I’m excited to start back up 2026 and see what comes.”
With the fourth season generating renewed buzz and speculation among fans, Demi’s exact role in the series — and whether she will continue as part of the cast — remains an open question.
