Fifty-six years after it first taught generations of kids how to count, spell, and share, “Sesame Street” is officially getting a new home and a fresh look on Netflix.

On November 3, the streaming giant unveiled the first trailer and a batch of new images from the upcoming season, marking the first time ever that the show’s iconic brownstone doors will open on Netflix. The new version of the children’s classic will combine live-action and animated segments, with fan-favorite characters Elmo, Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Grover, Rosita, and others all returning for the reimagined format.

According to Netflix’s official press release, “Episodes will invite children to play along in new ways, bring viewers inside the world’s most famous brownstone for the first time, and feature celebrity guests, original music, engaging animation, and, as always, lots of laughter.” Among the special guests for the debut season is NASCAR champion Bubba Wallace, who joins the Muppets for what the streamer describes as a “freshly reimagined” take on the legendary series.

The Netflix debut comes nearly a year after Warner Bros. Discovery the parent company of HBO Max decided not to renew its long-standing partnership with Sesame Street Workshop. The two companies had worked together for nearly a decade, with new episodes premiering on HBO Max and older seasons airing on PBS, the show’s original broadcast home.

When HBO Max ended its deal in late 2024, the future of “Sesame Street” appeared uncertain. But in May 2025, Netflix announced that it had acquired the rights to the Emmy-winning educational series and would also honor the show’s public broadcasting roots by allowing new episodes to air simultaneously on PBS for the first time in ten years.

The new season of “Sesame Street” officially premieres on Monday, November 10, coinciding with the 56th anniversary of the show’s original debut in 1969.

Each episode will feature interactive, immersive, and visually engaging 11-minute stories designed to put young viewers “at the center of the action.” Netflix plans to release the season in three separate volumes, beginning with a first volume that includes four 30-minute episodes.

In a major step toward global accessibility, the streamer also confirmed that the series will be available in more than 30 languages worldwide.

Under this new partnership, new “Sesame Street” episodes will release on the same day across Netflix, PBS stations, the PBS Kids channel, and PBS Kids digital platforms in the United States ensuring that the program continues to reach its broadest possible audience.

Since its 1969 debut, “Sesame Street” has become a cultural touchstone, blending humor, music, and education to teach children fundamental lessons about friendship, kindness, and curiosity. The Netflix revival promises to preserve that mission while expanding its creative and technological horizons.

With new stories, celebrity appearances, and a global streaming rollout, “Sesame Street” is ready to welcome a new generation of viewers all while keeping its signature spirit intact.

As the theme song famously says: “Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?”
Starting November 10, the answer will be simple — log on to Netflix.
